It is often said that the house always wins at roulette or any other casino game for that matter. This statement needs clarification because in some instances it isn’t strictly true. If we look at the entire picture and assess all of the action on all of the gaming tables in any given month or year then the house will always be ahead.

The advantages built into the actual games dictate that they must be ahead given any reasonable amount of action. So in this instance then we can categorically say that the house “always wins”. Likewise if we looked at any one individual who was playing any game with a minus expectation and who kept on playing over and over again so the sample size was getting larger and larger…….in these instances too then the house would always win.

But let us condense that down still further and look at a player who was looking to play roulette for the first time and who planned never to play again after this one single session. Now we are entering a totally different situation because we are now looking at a very small sample size and with small sample sizes then the statement of “the house always wins” now becomes inaccurate.

It is here that roulette systems have a very powerful strategic purpose because learning a simple system would make any novice player a decent roulette player in a very short space of time. Most roulette players do not pay any attention to how they bet but systems deter players from placing bad bets and this is their primary use.

You will never get rich even short term with a roulette system but unless you are using very dangerous doubling systems like the Martingale then you really shouldn’t lose much either. There are all sorts of interesting little roulette systems and one such system is the “Cuban” system. This roulette system involves placing a bet on the third column. In this column there are 8 red numbers and only 4 black numbers.

A covering bet is then placed on “black” so if the bet comes in the third column and is a black number then three units are won. If it comes in the third column and is a red number then one unit is won as there will now be a losing bet on black.

The theory behind this bet is that if the bet on third column loses then the bet on black stands a far greater chance of winning as there are more black numbers than red numbers in the other two columns.

This bet in no way gives the player an edge and it still cannot overcome the house edge. But as a stand alone system for a player who is considering a one off trip to a casino or online casino then the Cuban system is a good system to use. But this really does go to show that the house certainly does not win all the time.
